Archivist, Woburn Public Library (Woburn) About Woburn Public Library : The Woburn Public Library is a national historic landmark built in 1879, boasting a 30,500 square-foot addition, elegantly augmenting the original Richardson building and modern technology. About the Role : The Woburn Public Library is seeking a professional Archivist to be responsible for the operation of the Glennon Archives and provide occasional help at the reference desk. Responsible for overseeing the operation of the Glennon Archives. This includes acquiring, appraising, accessioning, describing and preserving records, photographs and artifacts, creating finding aids to facilitate access, and responding to research inquiries. Responsible for the digitization of materials and manages access to digital collections. Creates archival exhibits and materials to be experienced both virtually and in person. Develops and presents informative outreach programs focusing on local history. Supervises one part-time employee and volunteers. Provides routine public service at public service desks when needed. May serve as Librarian-in-Charge in the absence of the Director and Assistant Director. Works under the general supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Director. The Glennon Archives Work Environment : Woburn’s rich history comes to life within the walls of a suite of spaces devoted to preserving rare documents, artifacts, and photographs. The public space in the Archives suite is where community members of all ages can access texts, documents, and objects that tell the story of Woburn’s development over 375 years. The suite also boasts a climate-controlled vault that houses rare collections, books, artifacts, and art for the purposes of preservation and research. It provides a rare and amazing opportunity for someone with an interest in preserving and adding to Woburn’s rich history. Full time, 37.5 hours per week. One evening and alternate Saturdays are required. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications : MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution with archives/archives management specialization. Well organized and ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Experience working in a library or archive and some experience supervising others is preferred.
