The Department of Information Technology is hiring for a Computer Operator I in Honolulu. As a Computer Operator I, you’ll train and grow your skills in a 24/7 Data Center that supports vital city services and IT infrastructure. This is a great opportunity for tech-minded individuals looking to build a career in computer operations and information systems. What You Will Do Monitor and assist in controlling mainframe, midrange, and networked computer systems to ensure continuous and efficient operations. Learn to operate the master console - issuing system commands, responding to alerts, and performing basic system recycling under supervision. Perform basic job control tasks such as job scheduling input preparation, and output verification. Assist with managing print operations, including responding to printer console messages and preparing reports and print jobs for distribution. Support telecommunications and networking functions, including modems, switches, and controllers. Serve as a help desk call taker - logging trouble tickets, resolving simple issues, and escalating complex cases as needed. Receive on-the-job training to learn new software, hardware, and procedures as technology evolves. Special Working Conditions This position involves rotating shifts in a 24-hour operational environment. 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. 4:00 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. 11:45 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. You will be assigned a shift; however, you will be asked to cover for a different shift as needed. Rotating days off and you will have to work weekends and holidays as needed. Apply today!
