Overview
The Marine Inboard Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, servicing, diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling inboard marine engines (gas and diesel) and associated mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems aboard vessels (boats, yachts, workboats, etc.). The role demands technical skill, mechanical aptitude, safety awareness, and attention to detail to ensure vessels are seaworthy, reliable, and compliant with company and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
· Diagnose mechanical, fuel, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust system problems in marine gas and diesel inboard engines; troubleshoot performance issues, malfunctions, and failures.
· Perform engine repairs, routine (oil and fluid changes, filter replacement, belt/hoses inspection, cooling system maintenance), and preventative maintenance on all inboard engines and auxiliary systems.
· Repair or replace defective engine components, fuel systems. Electrical systems, transmissions/gear cases, and propulsion components specific to marine vessels.
· Keep detailed service and maintenance records for each vessel/equipment serviced, including parts replaced, work performed, and maintenance history.
· Work safely and follow all marine-industry safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies pertaining to marine vessel maintenance and repair.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required
· 2-5 years’ experience working on inboard marine engines (gasoline and diesel), with demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain engine and propulsion systems.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of marine-specific systems (engine, fuel, cooling, exhaust, drive/shaft, hydraulics, etc.).
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and parts catalogs.
· Physical ability to perform moderately strenuous work, lift heavy parts, standing/kneeling/crawling, working in varied conditions (wet, oily, tight spaces, outdoor/marina environment).
· Valid driver’s license and insurance.
Preferred
· Formal marine-mechanic certification, or completion of accredited marine- mechanic/apprenticeship program.
· Experience with both gasoline and diesel inboard engines, as well as familiarity with marine electrical, hydraulic or steering systems, and propulsion installation/overhaul.
· Ability to perform or assist with more advanced vessel or system work (e.g., hull work, plumbing, electrical systems, fiberglass/gelcoat repairs, system installations, winterization/commissioning, etc.).
· Flexibility to work non-standard hours when needed (e.g., sea trials, launch/haul out, emergency repairs).
Physical Requirements
· Physical ability to perform demanding work: lifting heavy parts, working in confined spaces, bending/crawling, and sometimes working onboard vessels (dockside or at sea).
· Ability to climb stairs or ladders to access vessels.
· Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Comfortable working in all types of weather conditions.
Working Hours & Compensation
· Full-time position; Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm
· Compensation to be determined based on experience and skill level.
