Assistant Group Supervisor Before & After School Programs

The Assistant Group Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the implementation of daily activities under the guidance of the site supervisor for the children who attend the before and after-school programs held in the elementary schools of Hempfield School District. The mission of SAC is to meet the needs of the local community by offering working parents a safe environment for kindergarten through sixth grade children to be supervised in a quality recreational and enrichment program during hours which extend beyond the school day.

This position is based on the Hempfield School calendar of openings and closures. Employment will begin the first date of school and end the last day of school. Employment start and end dates are subject to mandatory in service training, snow/emergency days and mandatory shut downs. Position is not paid when school is closed due to holiday, teacher in service, snow emergency closures, state mandated closures, emergency closure of any kind and scheduled closures according to the Hempfield School District calendar.

Education The Assistant Group Supervisor shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:

• A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, childhood development, special education, elementary education or the human services field
• A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training
• A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children
• A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum
• A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

• Assist the group supervisor in planning and implementing daily program activities
• Assist the group supervisor in managing child files/paperwork
• Assist other staff in managing site when Group Supervisor is absent
• Assist group supervisor in maintaining site compliance with DHS regulations
• Work with staff and children in a group setting
• Report to group supervisor with any conflict, behavior/discipline, staff issues
• Communicate with parents and school personnel as needed

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Certificates, Licenses, Trainings must be renewed annually

Required to complete: State Police and Child Abuse clearance, annual physical, bi-annual Mantoux tuberculosis testing, Basic First Aid and Fire Safety training, as well as six hours of additional annual training.

• Early Morning: 4:45am-9:00am Tuesday/Thursday
• Opportunity to pick up additional hours based on availability.

Qualifications

• A passion for health and fitness is a must!
• Previous experience in customer service or a fitness environment is a plus but not required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with our members.

Job Title: Sports Coordinators, Trainers, and/or Coaches

About Us: Hempfield Rec Center is a community-focused recreation facility dedicated to providing quality sports and fitness programming for youth and adults. We offer a variety of programs, including seasonal camps, skills clinics, and personalized training, designed to promote health, teamwork, and athletic development.

Position Summary:

We are seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable Sports Coordinators, Trainers, and Coaches to lead and support our sports programs, including camps, clinics, and private/small group training. Candidates should have a passion for teaching and motivating athletes of all skill levels, with a focus on safety, skill development, and fun.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and conduct sports camps, skills clinics, and training sessions in one or more sports (e.g., basketball, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, flag football)
• Lead engaging, age-appropriate drills and activities that support skill development and physical fitness.
• Provide one-on-one and small group coaching tailored to individual goals and needs.
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
• Communicate clearly with parents, athletes, and facility staff regarding schedules, expectations, and progress.
• Set up and clean up equipment before and after sessions.
• Assist with registration, check-in, and record-keeping as needed.

Qualifications:

• Experience coaching or instructing youth or adults in a recreational or competitive sports setting.
• Knowledge of fundamental and advanced techniques in at least one sport or fitness discipline.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and seasonal camp times.
• Background check required upon hiring.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree or coursework in kinesiology, sports science, physical education, or related field.
• Previous experience leading group fitness or skills development programs.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be able to lead a sixty minute class. Be able to communicate by example the exercise they want the member to perform. Be able to make a play list at tempo for water and keep the clients motivated.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in this work is usually moderate. There will be times an employee must be able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously due to the number of clients in class. You can teach in water or land. There are mats for use when teaching on land. There is a sound system available for use.

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have clearances (child abuse, criminal, and FBI) or willing to get upon hire.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willing to get upon hire. We offer the certification in-house.
