As a Pharmacy Intern you will play a vital role in supporting the pharmacy team in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care to our patients. You will gain valuable hands-on experience in a community pharmacy setting within an institutional environment, working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. This internship will provide you with the opportunity to enhance your clinical knowledge, develop essential pharmacy skills, and contribute to patient care. Responsibilities include assisting pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of medications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; providing excellent customer service by greeting and assisting patients, answering questions, and addressing concerns about medications and health products; participating in medication therapy management (MTM) services, including patient counseling and education on medication adherence and safety; assisting in maintaining accurate medication inventory, including ordering, receiving, and restocking medications and supplies; supporting the pharmacist in performing drug utilization reviews and monitoring for drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications; participating in patient care activities, including medication reconciliation and discharge counseling, in collaboration with healthcare providers; assisting in the documentation of patient information and medication records in accordance with pharmacy policies and procedures; engaging in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, including reporting medication errors and participating in safety audits; staying informed about current pharmacy practices, medications, and healthcare trends through continuous learning and professional development; and adhering to all pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety. Education requirements include currently being enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program, strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on patient care, ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, basic knowledge of pharmacology, medication management, and pharmacy law, and proficiency in computer skills including pharmacy software and electronic health records (EHR). Previous pharmacy experience is a plus but not required. The work environment is a community pharmacy within an institutional setting, interacting with a diverse patient population and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Flexibility in scheduling is required, including availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
