Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Professional Math Tutors work in the Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) as part-time (less than 18 hours/week), non-benefited contractors, with an hourly rate commensurate with experience. Day, evening and weekend hours are available.
Mathematics tutors should demonstrate extensive knowledge of math through at least calculus; read and comprehend mathematics problems and concepts; communicate mathematical knowledge effectively to students; work with multiple math subjects and students simultaneously; and help students with diverse math skills.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide tutoring support in college-level math subjects based on student needs. Subject areas include: algebra, statistics, precalculus, calculus, and some upper-level courses.
Assist students in understanding coursework, assignments, and exam preparation.
Explain mathematical concepts in an accessible and helpful manner.
Encourage the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrate a commitment to helping students with diverse skill sets in mathematics.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
CASA is a busy office with constant foot traffic and many professional and student employees. Professional Math Tutors may work with more than one student from different math subjects simultaneously. Professional Math Tutors work in a centralized tutoring area where other tutoring services are being performed.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior experience tutoring/teaching math or working in a related field
Broad knowledge of math subjects, including statistics and calculus
Excellent communication and listening skills
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrollment in a Master's or PhD program for Mathematics or related field
Familiarity with math software/tools (e.g., MATLAB, graphing calculators, Microsoft Excel, R)
Additional Information:
This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. CASA is open for tutoring Monday-Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am-1pm, and Sunday 5-9pm. Hours will be scheduled during these times. The pay rate is commensurate with experience.
