SMMC is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to join our dedicated healthcare team. this role provides expert respiratory care, supporting patients with cardiopulmonary conditions through assessment, treatment, and education. the ideal candidate will demonstrate clinical proficiency, strong teamwork, and a commitment to compassionate patient care.

Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients; respiratory status, including history taking, physical examination, physiological responses and diagnostic tests (e.g., spirometry, arterial blood gasses).
Analyze patient data to identify respiratory problems and develop appropriate treatment plans.
Administers respiratory therapy treatments, including oxygen therapy, inhalation medication as ordered via MetaNeb or hand held nebulizer treatments, and mechanical ventilation.
Perform airway management procedures, such as intubation and tracheostomy care, as needed.
Instructs patients on incentive spirometry on post-surgery, rib injury, or trauma cases and by request of the provider.
Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and percussion, including use of flutter valve, vest.
Checks physician orders and set up medication and dosage, respiratory devices, including bio high-flow nasal cannula, oxygen, humidifiers, and other necessary equipment. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer aerosol drugs to patients.
Consults with physician or mid-level provider in event of adverse reactions to respiratory treatment.
Educate patients and their families, students and other healthcare professionals on respiratory health, disease management, and the proper use of respiratory equipment (e.g., inhalers, CPAP machines). Provide guidance on lifestyle modifications, such as smoking cessation and exercise, to improve lung health.
Monitor patients’ responses to therapy and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the patient chart in compliance with healthcare regulations and institutional policies.
Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case discussions to optimize patient outcomes.
Set up and maintain respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring it is functioning properly and safely for patient use.
Educate staff on the proper use and maintenance of respiratory therapy devices
Accurately document all respiratory therapy services. Ensure proper billing for all services rendered in accordance with insurance guidelines and regulations. Collaborate with the billing department to resolve and discrepancies or issues related to patient billing and reimbursement

Education and/or Experience:

Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy from an accredited program; bachelor’s degree preferred,
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a Respiratory therapist, preferably in a hospital or acute care setting required.
Current license in good standing to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of Idaho.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is preferred.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required upon hire.
