Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care setting with strong skills in high-risk OB care and fetal monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Level 3 trauma acute care hospital on a Labor & Delivery unit
- The unit has 7 Labor & Delivery beds, 2 triage beds, and 10 postpartum beds
- Typical patient ratio is 1:2 with 1-3 births per day
- Must be able to manage L&D and couplet care as needed
- Support staff includes OB scrub tech, Health Unit Secretary, and 24/7 Respiratory Therapist
- Required to work 12-hour night shifts (6p-6a)
- Schedule includes a minimum of 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- One on-call shift required every 4 weeks
- May float to Emergency Department or MedSurg units if experienced
- Uses Allscripts Sunrise EMR; experience preferred
- Responsible for comprehensive care of laboring, triage, and postpartum patients, including high-risk cases
- Must be comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- 24/7 pharmacy support available onsite
- Team includes patient care techs and other support roles, with nurse manager assistance as needed
- Must wear hospital-provided scrubs for the unit
- Orientation is provided every Monday with 8 hours of training
- First time travelers will be considered for this position
Requirements
- Active RN license required for consideration
- Minimum 3 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
- Proficient in fetal monitoring and appropriate interventions for fetal distress
- C-section experience required
- Experience caring for patients with pre-eclampsia and high-risk obstetric conditions
- Must be skilled in rapid assessment and management of OB emergencies without an in-house OB/Neonatologist
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
